Ingredients
For the Cake:
1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Frosting:
8 oz cream cheese (softened)
½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
3 cups powdered sugar
⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
2–3 tbsp milk (as needed)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
In a separate bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients. Mix until combined.
Pour batter into a greased and floured pan. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
- Make the Frosting:
Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla. Adjust consistency with milk.
- Assemble:
Frost the cooled cake and decorate as desired. Slice and serve!
Notes
- Store cake in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
- Freeze slices for up to 3 months. Thaw before serving.
- Customize with nuts, chocolate chips, or citrus zest for added flavor!
